The neighbouring Volknar Rocks is now a marine reserve with a section that can be fished. This Marine reserve is an awesome scenic dive. White Island use to be mined for sulphur but was stopped in 1914 after an eruption killed 10 workers. White Island is now home to an abundance of Yellow Tail Kingfish also various other species. Yellow Tail Kingfish dominate these waters during the spring and summer months providing excellent fishing, as catch and release is promoted largely here from most vessels.
